Send me an email: v (at) polycrisisnavigator .org (gotta write it out like that to fool those annoying web crawlers and stop them from spamming me all the time).
I’m V. You can think of me as a friend. The very short version of why I am doing this is: I want to help people.
A longer explanation:
Because of my personal circumstances, I need work that is very flexible and will allow me to leave the country for months at a time. I tried doing data annotation and I tried starting an eco-travel agency.
Data annotation paid well but I felt increasingly uneasy and unwilling to help develop tools that are being deployed recklessly and irresponsibly at great social and environmental cost.
For the eco-travel thing, I could only realistically start out under the auspices of a host agency. So, I signed up with one and then investigated different companies whose products I was authorized to sell, thinking I would find the most ecologically responsible ones and sell for them. But I didn’t find companies whose products I felt good about promoting. I found greenwashing and an industry ethos of catering to the self-indulgences of the wealthy.
So … my failures have turned into motivation to do what I am now: trying to get the word out about companies you’ll want to boycott if you see what they’re really up to, and helping you find alternatives. I also want to give you some more general guidance on how to navigate the polycrisis, which is something I’ve spent a lot of time with.
It uses less energy for your screen to display black than lighter colors, and less energy to transmit text than graphics. Just trying to be mindful of things like that. I would like to see minimizing data transmission become a widespread general habit, like “saving electricity” by turning off lights, etc.
Yes … TL;DR: This is what happens when your budget is “as close to $0 as possible.”
As I decided on a name for this project, I practiced a bit of inner listening and the figure of Charon from Greek mythology, guiding departed souls across the river Styx came to mind. So I created a logo based on Charon. I used the free version of Canva to create the logo and did not employ their AI tools to do it.
Maybe you shouldn’t. Not that you should disbelieve me, either. But if you don’t know me, what do you have to go on? If you get to know me over time, you might develop a basis for trusting me.
At the moment, I’m not. Maybe some kind souls will donate to my Buy Me A Coffee thing in future, but as of this writing, I have not generated any income from this website. I might add affiliate links and/or offer coaching sessions in the future. I would like to make money doing this, but I am prioritizing doing the work the way I feel it should be done above that.
